The Belarusian military is continuing the formation of the new 37th Separate Air Assault Brigade, which will be stationed near Homiel. The announcement was made by Aliaksandr Iliukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, in an interview with the VoenTV television channel, according to the broadcaster.
“As of today, a number of military units and subunits have already been formed, personnel have already been called up, officers have been recruited, and they are undergoing planned training for their intended missions. Next year, we plan to relocate these units to their permanent bases,” he said.
In February, Iliukevich told the Pervyi Informatsionnyi television channel that the 37th Separate Air Assault Brigade was being formed.
“It will be stationed near Homiel. We have already begun forming the military units, and one battalion has already been established. This year, we are forming another battalion, as well as combat support units, artillery units, air defense units and reconnaissance units,” he said.
Once completed, the 37th Brigade will become the fourth separate air assault brigade within the Belarusian Special Operations Forces. Belarus currently has the 103rd Brigade in Vitsyebsk, the 38th Brigade in Brest and the 5th Brigade in Maryina Horka.
