Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took part in the international workshop “Women’s Progress Dialogue” during her visit to Berlin, timed to coincide with her participation in the World Forum on Democracy, Technology and the Future of Humanity. In her speech, she emphasised the power of women’s solidarity and reminded participants of women political prisoners.

“More than 170 Belarusian women remain political prisoners. Many of them stood in white coats with flowers on the streets in 2020. Others were arrested for protesting against the war in 2022. In prison, they face oppression, cruel treatment, beatings and torture. They have fewer rights than ordinary prisoners. This must be stopped.

I very much hope that our women’s solidarity around the world will help to free them.

Solidarity between women is more than kindness — it is strength. It is our strategy. It is how we will endure,” Tsikhanouskaya was quoted as saying by her Office.

It is noted that the session was opened by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The event also featured speeches by former Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaitė, Greenland’s first female prime minister Aleqa Hammond and others.
