U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed that Belarus become a founding member of the Peace Council in the context of resolving the situation in the Gaza Strip. This is stated in a personal message from Trump to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported.

“The Belarusian side has received a personal message from the President of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump, addressed to the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alyaksandr Hryhoravich Lukashenka.
In the message, Belarus is invited, in the context of resolving the situation in Gaza, to become a founding member of the Peace Council, a new international organisation,”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ruslan Varankou said.

Lukashenka viewed Trump’s proposal positively, and the Foreign Ministry described the invitation as recognition of Lukashenka’s personal merits.

“We highly value the fact that the American side sees Belarus and explicitly identifies it in the text of the message as a state ready to assume the noble responsibility of building lasting peace and to lead by example, investing in a safe and prosperous future for coming generations.
We also regard this proposal as recognition of the personal merits and international authority of the head of the Belarusian state.
The proposal was reported to the President of the Republic of Belarus and was received by him positively,”
Varankou said.

Belarus is ready to take part in the work of the Peace Council, but hopes that it will address not only the situation in Gaza but other international conflicts as well.

“Our position is this: we are ready to participate in the activities of the Peace Council, while taking into account and hoping that this organisation will expand its scope and powers far beyond the mandate proposed in the initiative. This will allow it to actively participate in global processes aimed at resolving any international conflicts, which ultimately will contribute to building a new security architecture that Belarus has been actively promoting in recent years,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The creation of the Peace Council on Gaza was envisaged in Trump’s plan to end the war published in September 2025. The Council is chaired by Trump. Last week, the White House announced the creation of a founding executive council and published its membership list: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former UK prime minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser Robert Gabriel, and American billionaire Mark Rowan. In addition, an Executive Council for Gaza was established.

Invitations from Trump to join the Peace Council were sent to the leaders of several countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Russia, Kazakhstan, Hungary and Germany.
