Three tons of drugs were seized in Belarus in 2025, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou said on Tuesday in the House of Representatives. He presented a draft law on the ratification of an agreement on the SCO Anti-Drug Center.
“At present, the main problem is the transit of drugs through our country. In 2025, all law enforcement agencies seized three tons of drugs, 2.5 tons of which were transiting through the Republic of Belarus,” he said.
According to him, the drugs were seized both at the border and within Belarus, but all 2.5 tons were moving through the country in transit. Kubrakov believes that the SCO Anti-Drug Center will allow Belarusian law enforcement agencies to act proactively.
The SCO Anti-Drug Center has the following powers:
- identifying and suppressing the activities of transnational organized criminal groups involved in the illegal trafficking of drugs and their precursors;
- conducting, at the request of the competent authorities of the parties, international searches for persons involved in crimes related to the illegal trafficking of drugs and their precursors;
- organizing, conducting, and coordinating joint international anti-drug operations and operational-search measures by the competent authorities of the parties;
- establishing, ensuring the functioning of, and maintaining the SCO Anti-Drug Center database on matters within its competence;
- collecting, storing, protecting, analyzing, and exchanging information related to the illegal trafficking of drugs and their precursors, as well as providing such information to the competent authorities of the parties upon request.
