A terrorist attack took place in Lviv, in which a police officer was killed and 24 people were injured, the National Police of Ukraine reported.
According to the agency, at around 12:30 a.m. a call was received on the 102 emergency line reporting a break-in at a shop on Danylyshyna Street. After a patrol police unit arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Later, when a second patrol unit arrived, another explosion went off.
Preliminary findings indicate that improvised explosive devices were detonated. As a result, a 23-year-old police officer, Viktoriia Shpylka, was killed. A patrol police service vehicle and a civilian vehicle were damaged.
An investigative task force, explosives experts and other specialized services worked at the scene. Medical assistance is being provided to those injured.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (a terrorist act resulting in grave consequences). The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. Law enforcement authorities are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and identifying those involved.
