Suspect Detained in Poland on Espionage Charges Against Lithuania on Behalf of China

A suspect has been detained in Poland on charges of spying against Lithuania on behalf of China, Lithuania’s State Security Department reported.

The suspect is a 32-year-old citizen of Montenegro. He was detained at Warsaw’s Frederic Chopin Airport under a European arrest warrant issued by the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the State Security Department, since 2023 the suspect had been collecting and transmitting information about Lithuania and developments in the country that were of interest to Chinese intelligence agencies.

The man has been detained in Poland, and extradition procedures have been initiated.

On Saturday, Polish police reported the detention of a suspect in an espionage case under a European arrest warrant but did not disclose details at the time.
