The Interior Ministry said seven criminal cases had been opened over the concealment of a fertilizer spill.
According to the ministry’s press service, an accidental leak of 330 tonnes of a urea-ammonium nitrate solution occurred in the region.
Investigators allege that, in an effort to conceal the losses, a 49-year-old deputy head of one of the region’s largest holdings and the 43-year-old director of a subordinate organization conspired with officials from four agricultural enterprises in the Lida district. According to the documentation, the missing fertilizer was recorded in inventory and written off as having been applied to fields.
The damage was estimated at 270,000 Belarusian rubles.
