In the Mahilyow Region, a citizen of the Russian Federation was detained for illegally hunting a red deer from an ambush. He was carrying a crossbow that had been illegally brought into the country, the press service of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Animal and Plant Life reported.
“Officers of the Mahilyow Regional Inspectorate, during a field operation, detained a citizen of the Russian Federation who, without having the right to hunt in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, while in a covered hunting tower, carried out an ambush hunt for a red deer without the appropriate permit, using his hunting crossbow, which had been illegally brought into the territory of the Republic of Belarus,” the statement said.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 16.27 of the Code of Administrative Offences of Belarus. The Russian citizen faces a fine of between 10 and 30 base units, with possible confiscation of the hunting implements.
A hunting enterprise employee who assisted the Russian citizen was less fortunate. His actions show signs of a criminally punishable offence under Part 3 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus – illegal hunting committed by an official using his official powers. An inspection is underway in connection with this fact.
