“Road to Kurapaty” Film by Belarusfilm Declared “Extremist”
The Leninski District Court of Hrodna has designated as “extremist material” the film “Road to Kurapaty”, produced in 1990 by the Letapis studio of Belarusfilm. The film is currently available on the YouTube channel “Sergey”. Two other videos from the same channel were also added to the list of extremist materials: “Belarusian Resistance for a Free State!” and “Stalin Line”.
The director of “Road to Kurapaty” was Mikhail Zhdanouski, who passed away on October 20, 2023.
The screenplay was written by Mikhail Zhdanouski together with Aliaksandr Lukashuk. Zianon Pazniak took part in the making of the film. The cinematographer was Siarhei Piatrouski.
The film received a State Prize. In the early 1990s, it was screened throughout the Soviet Union.
“Road to Kurapaty” is a documentary testimony to the crimes committed by the Bolshevik regime against people.
The authorities also added to the list of extremist materials the Instagram account of Janusz Hawryluk, a Polish citizen, graduate of the Belarusian Philology Department at the University of Warsaw, and founder and director of the Belarusian film festival Bulbamovie.
