During the Munich Security Conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed participants of MSC Young Leaders, a programme for young political leaders from around the world.
The meeting was held in the format of a speech followed by an open discussion and lasted more than an hour. Participants included representatives of governments and parliaments, as well as politicians from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Turkey, Pakistan, Germany and other countries, the press service of the democratic leader reported.
One of the key topics was political prisoners and mechanisms of pressure on the Belarusian regime. Tsikhanouskaya spoke about negotiations with the United States on the release of detainees, the conditions of their detention and the role of sanctions, stressing that international pressure remains an important tool.
Issues of regional security were also discussed, including the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus. Tsikhanouskaya stated that the ongoing escalation by Russia poses a threat not only to neighbouring countries but to all of Europe.
Speaking about the war in Ukraine, she noted the need to take the Belarusian factor into account in the overall picture of the war. According to her, neither Alyaksandr Lukashenka nor Vladimir Putin are interested in a swift end to the war and are using it to retain power.
In addition, the discussion covered the topic of the “military economy” in Belarus, the activities of democratic forces, elections to the Coordination Council, as well as passport issues for Belarusians abroad and the New Belarus national passport project.
Separately, Tsikhanouskaya presented a BELPOL report on the participation of the Belarusian regime in the war and the “Red Paper” on European-Belarusian security.
