Polish border guards have discovered a new tunnel on the border with Belarus. According to the Podlaskie Regional Unit of the Border Guard, the underground passage was found near Narewka.

The tunnel is several dozen metres long. It runs beneath both the border fence and a service road. The height of the passage is about 1.5 metres. Its entrance was located in a forest roughly 50 metres from the border on the Belarusian side, while the exit was on the Polish side, about 10 metres from the barrier.

“Thanks to electronic systems, Border Guard officers quickly determined that within a short period more than 180 foreigners had entered Poland through the tunnel. As a result of the measures taken, more than 130 people have been detained so far, and the search for the remaining violators continues. In addition to border guards, soldiers and police officers are participating in the operation, and service dogs are also being used. Among the detained foreigners were mainly citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan, with others including nationals of India, Nepal and Bangladesh,” the statement said.

Two citizens of Poland and Lithuania who had come to pick up the migrants were also detained.
