Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has signed laws on the establishment of a military training ground in Kapčiamiestis and the expansion of the Tauragė training ground.

“The laws on training grounds adopted by the Seimas with an overwhelming majority demonstrate Lithuania’s firm determination to strengthen its defence capabilities and deterrence, as well as to consistently contribute to NATO’s collective defence. The Kapčiamiestis training ground is of vital importance for the formation of a national division and the effective training of soldiers. Its strategic location along the Suwałki Corridor strengthens the defence capabilities of the entire region and our cooperation with NATO partners”, Nausėda said.

He proposed naming the Kapčiamiestis training ground after Emilia Plater. The facility will be at brigade level.

Lithuania’s Defence Ministry also announced the signing of an additional contract for the supply of HIMARS systems. It предусматривает the delivery of additional combat vehicles and ammunition, as well as command and communication equipment. Lithuania is expected to receive its first HIMARS battery this year.
