The Investigative Committee is examining a criminal case against a 31-year-old Minsk resident. The man is accused of large-scale fraud (Part 4, Article 209 of the Criminal Code).

According to the Investigative Committee, since 2023 the Minsk resident had been working as a polisher at one of the capital’s car dealerships. He searched online for advertisements posted by private individuals selling their cars and presented himself to them as a potential buyer.

Investigators say the man promised to purchase the vehicle, pay an advance, and settle the remaining amount in instalments. As a “guarantee,” he signed loan agreements with the victims.

“However, after signing the documents and receiving the advance payment, the man acted differently. He sold the victims’ vehicles through auto-house platforms and appropriated the proceeds,” the Investigative Committee said.

His activities did not stop there. Under the pretext of developing a car-reselling business, he borrowed large sums of money from acquaintances at interest. He did not repay the debts and spent the funds on personal needs.

At present, investigators have established that over two years the Minsk resident seized the property of 60 victims, amounting to more than 400,000 belarusian roubles.

The man has been taken into custody. The investigation continues.
