Deputy Director to Stand Trial Over Boiler Explosion That Injured Two People

The Partizanski District Prosecutor’s Office in Minsk has referred to court a criminal case against the deputy director of a company that rents out construction equipment. He is accused of violating occupational safety regulations.

The case stems from the explosion of a solid-fuel boiler in February last year. The boiler overheated, leaving two company employees with burns covering approximately 18% and 12% of their bodies.

The investigation concluded that the deputy director for technical matters failed to ensure the safe operation of the boiler, “did not organize the necessary training in safe boiler operation and allowed employees without the required qualifications and without familiarity with the boiler’s operating documentation (because it was unavailable) to operate it.”

The defendant has been released under a travel restriction pending trial.
