Defence Minister Viktar Khrenin said he does not intend to re-educate undisciplined workers who, under an order from Aliaksandr Lukashenka, will be sent to the army. He made the statement today after briefing Lukashenka.
Yesterday, at a nationwide conference call, Lukashenka ordered that undisciplined and negligent workers involved in the harvest campaign be sent to the army. Today, Khrenin reported on how this instruction would be implemented.
“I reported on how the head of state’s instruction will be implemented. Military commissars will now join this work. In the near future, they will hold joint meetings with the heads of local authorities to determine the sequence of actions. Then, as the President said, they will leave their offices and go to the fields, visit agricultural enterprises, organise coordination with them, and provide assistance and support. As for those who absolutely do not want to work, we will call them up for military training, where we will improve their combat skills.”, he said.
At the same time, he stressed that those who had failed in their duties would not be re-educated.
“We are not going to take anyone in for re-education. We will take them in to improve the combat skills of our people, especially those liable for military service.”, he said.
According to the Defence Ministry, after briefing Lukashenka, Khrenin convened his own conference call with regional military commissariats.
