An intoxicated resident of Minsk who threatened two men with a running chainsaw following a road dispute has been convicted of aggravated hooliganism and sentenced to 3.5 years of restricted freedom to be served at home, the Minsk Region Prosecutor’s Office reported.

According to the case materials, on Feb. 28 this year, two men and two women were traveling by car to Barysau. As they passed through the village of Yakshytsy in the Byarezina district, the driver stopped to allow a man carrying a chainsaw to cross the road. When the vehicle resumed moving and began passing the pedestrian on the left, the chainsaw owner made an obscene gesture toward the driver and passengers.

The driver stopped the car to confront him about the gesture. The pedestrian then started the chainsaw and chased the two men who had exited the vehicle, threatening them.

During the trial, the defendant partially admitted guilt.
