Latvia’s honorary consulate in Sloviansk was destroyed in a Russian strike on July 24. Two staff members were injured. Honorary Consul Oleksandr Pavenko was not injured, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to information provided by the Ukrainian side, the building was hit by a KAB-250 guided aerial bomb.

In connection with the incident, a note of protest was delivered to Russia’s chargé d’affaires ad interim in Latvia.

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže informed the foreign ministers of EU and NATO member states, as well as international organizations, about the incident.

“Latvia strongly condemns Russia’s barbaric attacks against Ukraine, which continue to claim civilian lives and destroy civilian infrastructure. Latvia will continue its unwavering support for Ukraine. Pressure on Russia must be maintained, including by strengthening sanctions, while Ukraine’s defence capabilities must be further enhanced through the provision of military assistance and the air defence systems it needs,” the Latvian Foreign Ministry said.
