The Museum of Free Belarus will take part in this year’s Warsaw Gallery Weekend as an official museum institution representing Belarusian contemporary art. As part of Central Europe’s leading contemporary art festival, the museum will present a solo project by artist Aliaksandr Adamau (Alexander Adamau).
According to the museum’s press service, participation in Warsaw Gallery Weekend in its new capacity marks recognition of the Museum of Free Belarus as a fully fledged European cultural institution. Today, the institution operates not only as a place for preserving historical memory but also as an open platform for collaborative projects by independent artists.
As part of the festival’s official program, the museum will open Aliaksandr Adamau’s solo exhibition, “hyperMOTHER.Shared Breathing,” on Sept. 18. The exhibition by the Belarusian artist is conceived as a long-term artistic cycle exploring the themes of the biopolitics of care, the delegation of corporeality, and the existential exhaustion of modern humanity.
Warsaw Gallery Weekend will be held in Warsaw for the 16th time. Over three days, from Sept. 18 to 20, leading galleries and art centers in the Polish capital will present the region’s most significant contemporary art projects.
Warsaw Gallery Weekend is regarded as the largest annual contemporary art festival in Poland and Central Europe. It has been held since 2011, following the model of Berlin’s Gallery Weekend. For several days, Warsaw’s private galleries, museums, and cultural centers are brought together into a single art trail visited by curators, art critics, and collectors from around the world.
