Firefighters overnight completed efforts to extinguish a major fire that broke out in central Minsk.
The roof and attic of a building at 9 Lenina Street caught fire on Sunday evening. Firefighting operations continued for several hours. At its peak, the fire covered more than 1,000 square metres. The blaze engulfed the roof truss structures in the attic.
At around 10:45 p.m., the Emergencies Ministry reported that the fire had been brought under control. It was fully extinguished by about 3 a.m. A total of 27 Emergencies Ministry vehicles were deployed to tackle the fire.
A crisis response headquarters operated at the scene. Residents of the building were temporarily relocated: some stayed with relatives and friends, while others accepted accommodation offered by the local authorities in a dormitory.
