Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s press service has outlined the topics of today’s talks with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The meeting itself was held behind closed doors.

According to the press service, the sides discussed the implementation of key bilateral cooperation projects and exchanged assessments of the situation in the region and on the international stage.

In particular, they addressed the implementation of the cooperation plan signed in Minsk. The focus was placed on specific projects in the fields of food security and industry. The sides also touched on expanding cooperation in agriculture. Earlier this autumn, Lukashenka’s property manager Yury Nazarau mentioned an agricultural project with Oman in the Braslau district, although its nature remains unknown.

“The sides also discussed opportunities for joint efforts to develop mutually beneficial export supplies, including to markets in Asia and Africa.

Special attention was given to another major joint investment project — the creation of a pulp and paper mill in Belarus — as a follow-up to the memorandum signed in Minsk in October during the Omani Sultan’s visit.”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka put forward several additional proposals for joint initiatives, including the supply of Belarusian food products and the establishment of joint production facilities in Belarus.

Another topic of discussion was cooperation in the tourism sector.

The sides “noted overall progress on all issues of bilateral cooperation since their last meeting in Minsk in October of this year.”
