Lithuanian Justice Ministry Considers Confiscation of Belarusian Assets

Lithuania’s Ministry of Justice is considering the confiscation of Belarusian assets if Minsk attempts to seize trucks belonging to Lithuanian transport companies.

“The confiscation of property is a very painful issue for Lithuanians, and implementing such measures is not so simple, because we would immediately end up in the courts. However, if the confiscation of these trucks takes place in Belarus, we would certainly have to take retaliatory measures. And, of course, take similar actions,” Justice Minister Rita Tamašunienė said on Thursday on Ziniu radijas radio station.

According to her, the implementation of such steps would require the adoption of a new law. At the same time, the ministry has already examined Belarusian assets located in Lithuania.

She also noted that there is currently no possibility of resolving the problem through diplomatic means or improving relations with Belarus.
