The Interior Ministry published photos of the unmanned aerial vehicle that allegedly entered Belarus from Lithuania and fell in Hrodna on 30 November. Security officials claim the drone dropped “extremist” materials, which, judging by the photos, were white-red-white flags.

According to the Interior Ministry, the drone of unknown origin was discovered on one of the streets of Hrodna on 30 November. The unmanned aerial vehicle was equipped with photo and video cameras, was launched from Lithuania, and was intended to leave Belarusian airspace into Poland.

“During the inspection, police officers established that the drone was equipped with photo and video cameras capable of collecting reconnaissance data. In addition, the unmanned aerial vehicle carried out the drop of printed materials of an extremist nature.

Specialists analysed the data from the onboard equipment and determined the flight route. The launch point was the village of Kapciamiestis in the Lazdijai district of the Alytus county of the Republic of Lithuania. The aircraft was supposed to leave Belarusian territory via Poland,” the ministry said.

An investigation is underway.

The Foreign Ministry was the first to report the drone’s crash in Hrodna. The ministry stated that the drone had arrived from Lithuania, issued a protest to the Lithuanian side, and described the incident as a “deliberate provocation.”
