Banks increased lending to individuals in May. During the month, they issued loans worth 1.62 billion Belarusian rubles, 80 million Belarusian rubles less than in April. Compared with May last year, the volume of lending increased by 21.3%, according to data published by the National Bank of Belarus.
Overall, during the first five months of the year, the total amount of loans issued by banks to individuals increased by 5.7% compared with the same period last year.
Consumer lending rose by 7.3% in January-May to 5.66 billion Belarusian rubles. Lending for real estate declined by 0.3% to 1.38 billion Belarusian rubles.
Outstanding household debt increased by 457.5 million Belarusian rubles in May, reaching 31.14 billion Belarusian rubles as of June 1. Household debt to banks was up 12.5% year on year.
Outstanding consumer loan debt increased by 15.5% to 12.56 billion Belarusian rubles, while outstanding real estate loan debt rose by 10.6% to 18.53 billion Belarusian rubles.
As of June 1, individuals had 55.8 million Belarusian rubles in overdue loans, 0.7 million Belarusian rubles less than on May 1. Year on year, the volume of overdue debt increased by 11.8 million Belarusian rubles.
