Former political prisoner Raman Ramanau has died less than a year after his release, former political prisoner and journalist Dzmitry Semchanka said on Facebook.
“Raman Ramanau has passed away. A decent man who loved Belarus. He paid a high price for his convictions. Together we went through ‘Wolf Holes’. Raman was released last August. He always took everything to heart, and now it has failed him. His mother has been left alone. He worried so much about her. He did not want her to come for visits, because it was very difficult to reach the colony hidden in the forest. And she had only just managed to meet her son when today she is saying goodbye to him again — this time forever,” Semchanka wrote.
In December 2023, Ramanau was sentenced to two years in a penal colony on charges of insulting Lukashenka and insulting a government official. He was released in August 2025.
