Estonian Website Postimees Added to List of “Extremist Materials”

The Belarusian Information Ministry continues to add media outlets from European countries to its list of “extremist materials.”

Recently, Euronews and Poland’s state news agency PAP were added to the list. Now it is the turn of Estonia’s oldest publication, Postimees. The newspaper was first published in 1857, and in the 21st century the Postimees website has become one of the country’s leading online media outlets.

On August 6, the Horki District Court ruled that Postimees’ information products constituted “extremist materials,” after which it was added to the list.

The Information Ministry also added:

• the TikTok account “Valera Belarus”;
• the Threads page “Pavel Latushka”;
• the Instagram account “ruhvolia”;
• the Telegram bots “Leaflet Bot,” “ByProsvet Bot,” “Distributor Bot,” “Black Card of Occupiers” (with a logo), “FrayMarta”;
• the Telegram account “BELZHD EDITOR”;
• the Telegram channel “POHONIA.”

It should be recalled that accusations of extremism are used in Belarus to persecute opponents of Lukashenka and dissent in general.
