The Belarusian Ministry of Education has approved a procedure for selecting candidates to study abroad. Resolution No. 209 of December 8, approving the relevant regulation, was published today on the National Legal Internet Portal.
The document concerns the selection of candidates to receive education at foreign institutions under international agreements for which the Ministry of Education is the responsible authority on the Belarusian side.
Under the regulation, secondary school graduates may be sent to foreign institutions to pursue bachelor’s degree programs, while university students may be sent for internships.
The following conditions for participation in the selection process are set out:
- enrollment at the time of application;
- proficiency in a foreign language sufficient for the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree program or internship in accordance with the requirements of the host side;
- a grade point average of at least 8 on a ten-point scale based on current assessments;
- documentary confirmation that the candidate belongs to a category of persons exempt from compulsory military service or reserve service, or not subject to conscription during the period of study at a foreign institution;
- other conditions related to the specific features of education at foreign institutions.
Universities and relevant departments of regional executive committees must submit a package of documents to the Ministry of Education for the selection process, including a written undertaking by the candidate to return to Belarus.
