Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Vladimir Putin may discuss participation in the Council of Peace, but the issue is not a top priority. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“This issue does not rank high on the agenda. Naturally, today the presidents will have the opportunity to discuss current international affairs. It cannot be ruled out that this topic may be touched upon in some way. At the same time, it is far from being the main issue and is far from the top of the agenda,” Peskov said, as reported by TASS.
It is recalled that on February 16, during a meeting with Union State Secretary of State Sergey Glazyev as part of preparations for today’s meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, Lukashenka devoted considerable attention to the Council of Peace. He said he expected to take an active part in its work. According to him, Lukashenka is ready to present Russia’s position in the council, but even if this is not required, he will still coordinate it with Putin.
“Naturally, this position — both Russia’s and Belarus’s — will be unified. We will develop this position, because we share the same views,” Lukashenka said at the time.
“We will definitely discuss this issue with President Putin. Perhaps at the Supreme State Council. But afterwards we will have a full day of negotiations with him. We will certainly touch on this issue. We will compare our positions, our points of view. Perhaps my position will change in some respects in light of Vladimir Vladimirovich’s arguments. Perhaps he will hear something new from me. But we will definitely discuss this issue,” he added.
