Criminal Case Opened Over Child Poisoning Incident in Barysau

Belarus’ Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case in connection with the poisoning of children in Barysau. The case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 336 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of sanitary norms and regulations or hygiene standards resulting in illness or poisoning through negligence”).

The investigation will be conducted by the Minsk Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee.

Investigators have carried out inspections, questioned the affected children, their parents and employees of educational institutions. Documents related to procurement, storage conditions and transportation of food products have been seized and examined. A number of forensic examinations have been ordered.

It should be recalled that on June 2 and 3, 30 children were admitted to Barysau Central District Hospital with nausea and vomiting. The children attended different kindergartens across the city. Investigators later identified another 13 affected individuals from various localities in Minsk Region.

As of the morning of June 4, only one child remained in the infectious diseases ward. All others have been discharged for outpatient treatment.
