On the evening of June 2, 27 preschool-aged children in Barysau were admitted to the infectious diseases ward of the Barysau Central District Hospital with symptoms of infection, including nausea and vomiting. Over the following 24 hours, one more person sought medical attention with similar symptoms.
“On the evening of June 2, a number of Barysau residents, mainly parents of preschool-aged children, contacted medical institutions in the city regarding digestive disorders in their children. The minors were examined and hospitalised. They received medical care and their treatment was adjusted. During the night, a positive trend was observed in the children’s condition. By morning, they were already feeling better. Monitoring will continue in the inpatient setting,” said Aliaksandr Drozd, chief physician of the Barysau Central District Hospital, in comments to the local publication Adzinstva.
An epidemiological investigation is underway in Barysau.
According to Minsk Region’s chief sanitary doctor, Aliaksandr Tarasenka, all patients are in satisfactory condition.
“The situation is stable today. At present, all 28 patients are in satisfactory condition,” he told BelTA.
Messages in local chat groups indicate that the children began feeling unwell after attending kindergarten. The reports involve several different kindergartens. Users have speculated that the cause may be Bifidin, a fermented dairy product consumed by the children at their childcare facilities.
