Representatives of the organization BELPOL have completed a working visit to Kyiv, during which they held a series of meetings with Ukrainian state institutions.
As reported by the organization’s press service, one of the key events was the first closed briefing for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, dedicated to the militarization of Belarus and threats posed by the Lukashenka regime.
A closed briefing was also held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, where participants discussed a new Ukrainian sanctions package introduced during the visit, technical details of its implementation, and prospects for further pressure on the regime. The same topics were raised at a meeting with the leadership of the Department for Affairs of Unfriendly Countries.
Humanitarian and human rights issues were discussed separately. At a meeting with an adviser to Ukraine’s ombudsman, participants addressed Ukrainian children being taken to Belarus from occupied territories, as well as Belarusian volunteers who fought on the side of Ukraine and are currently in captivity.
BELPOL stated that the main outcome of the visit was “a convergence of assessments and alignment of approaches to countering common threats”. According to the organization, a systematic partnership is being formed between the Ukrainian side and BELPOL, based on shared security interests and democratic change.
