Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said there is a need to pay attention to threats coming from Belarus in connection with the situation in Ukraine and to prevent the formation of an alliance between Minsk and Moscow. He made the statement today ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
“We need to be particularly attentive and vigilant to signals and threats coming from Belarus. The formation of its [Belarus’] de facto alliance with Moscow in this conflict must be prevented”, Prévot told journalists.
It is worth recalling that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on April 17 that Russia would again try to draw Belarus into the war. He noted that increased military activity had been observed in Belarus, while roads leading to Ukrainian territory and artillery positions were being built in border areas. A representative of Ukraine’s border service, in turn, said that no build-up of Belarusian troops or movement of equipment near the Ukrainian border had been detected.
