Ukrainian border guards are not detecting an increase in Belarusian troops along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Ukrainian State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko said this during a television marathon, Ukrinform reported.

“There is no troop build-up. Since 2022, Belarus has kept its units in certain areas, saying this was intended to strengthen its own security because it expected some kind of action from Ukraine, although Ukraine has never threatened Belarus and does not plan to take such actions. Therefore, there are units that Belarus had already kept along our border. They are rotated, replaced and moved around, but there is no increase even in these units”, Demchenko said.

According to Demchenko, no movement of equipment near the border has been detected either.

“By creating an atmosphere of tension, they at one point announced the creation of a Southern Operational Command specifically along the border with Ukraine. Within this framework, positions, training grounds and access roads may also be arranged”, the spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service said.

Demchenko stressed that Russia is currently not keeping large forces in Belarus that could invade Ukraine, but provocative actions cannot be ruled out, particularly with the aim of diverting the Ukrainian armed forces to the Belarusian direction from more important areas.

It is worth recalling that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on April 17 that Russia would again try to draw Belarus into the war. He noted that increased military activity had been observed in Belarus, while roads leading to Ukrainian territory and artillery positions were being built in border areas.
