The Interior Ministry has added 13 more people to its “List of Citizens of the Republic of Belarus, Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons Involved in Extremist Activity”. Among them is Belarusian citizen Stanislau Pryhodzich, who was sentenced in absentia by the Homiel Regional Court in May to five years in a general-regime penal colony and fined 4,500 Belarusian roubles.
Pryhodzich was found guilty under articles covering incitement of hatred, participation in an “extremist formation”, insulting Lukashenka, insulting a government official and discrediting Belarus.
The “extremist list” now contains 6,663 names.
Belarusian authorities regularly use extremism-related charges to target political opponents and dissent more broadly.
