The Belarusian Defence Ministry has declared its readiness for dialogue with NATO to ensure security in the Eastern European region. The statement was made on VoenTV by Valery Revenka, Head of the Department of International Military Cooperation and Assistant to the Minister of Defence of Belarus for International Military Cooperation.

According to him, Belarus’s relations with Western countries and NATO remain difficult. Revenka claimed that tensions in the dialogue stem from disagreements over foreign policy and security, arguing that the West “wanted to subordinate Belarus to its interests.”

“Naturally, we do not agree with this. We have our own policy — including a policy of good neighbourliness, including a policy of ensuring security in the Eastern European region. This conflicted with the views of the West, and the entire situation has affected our relations with Western countries, with the European Union and, accordingly, with NATO member states.

Nevertheless, we continue contacts with Western countries. We have accredited several NATO member states in the Republic of Belarus. As of today, ten states, and we are ready to present to them the position of the Republic of Belarus. We are ready to hear their position and to reach some form of consensus — again, to ensure security in our region,” he said.
