Belarusian organisations in October dismissed only 145 more people than they hired. In September, hires exceeded dismissals. These figures come from new data published by the national statistics agency Belstat. The report does not include micro- and small enterprises without ministerial subordination.
In October, 68.02 thousand people were hired, while 68.17 thousand were fired — resulting in 145 more dismissals than hires.
Over the 10-month period, the balance also favoured dismissals. A total of 649.3 thousand people were hired, while 668.7 thousand were dismissed — 19.4 thousand more dismissals.
In October, hiring increased by 6.8% compared with the same month last year, and by 16.3% over the ten-month period.
Dismissals in October rose by 13.5% year-on-year, and by 12% in January–October.
In October, the sectors with a negative balance — more dismissals than hires — were agriculture, forestry and fishing (-3,327), manufacturing (-3,978), construction (-1,044), transport and logistics (-923), and information and communications (-183). For the first time this year, information and communications recorded more dismissals than hires.
A positive balance in October was recorded in trade (+559), education (+2,631) and healthcare (+2,290).
In January–October, dismissals outnumbered hires in agriculture, forestry and fishing (-4,846), healthcare (-637), manufacturing (-9,739), trade (-1,959), transport and logistics (-4,577), public administration (-376) and education (-4,690).
A positive balance over the ten-month period was recorded in information and communications (+1,304), construction (+3,707), and financial and insurance activities (+566).
