Russia launched one of the largest attacks on Kyiv using ballistic missiles during the night of July 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Russian forces fired more than 40 missiles of various types at Ukraine, most of them targeting the capital, along with 120 attack drones.
As of now, one person has been confirmed dead in Kyiv and the surrounding region, while another 16 people have been injured. Emergency crews continue to deal with the aftermath of the strikes at three locations, with nearly 600 rescuers involved in the response. Emergency and rescue operations are also underway in Odesa Region.
According to Zelenskyy, over the past week Russia has used around 1,450 attack drones, more than 1,640 guided aerial bombs, and 99 missiles of various types against Ukraine. Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Cherkasy regions also came under attack.
Zelenskyy again urged Ukraine’s partners to accelerate deliveries of missile defence systems.
“Protection against ballistic missiles is our constant and top priority right now. Interceptor missiles are needed every day, and I am grateful to everyone who takes our agreements seriously and ensures the delivery of missile defence systems. These deliveries are literally saving lives during every large-scale Russian attack.
It is also critically important that, alongside work on missile defence, pressure on Russia continues. Delays in making new decisions give Moscow time not only to plan new attacks against our people but also to find ways to evade new sanctions,” the Ukrainian president said.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia launched 41 missiles and 125 drones during the overnight attack, with Kyiv as the main target.
According to the military, Russia used 10 Tsirkon anti-ship missiles, 25 Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles, three Oniks missiles, three Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles, and 125 drones.
Ukraine’s air defence forces said they shot down or electronically suppressed 18 of the 41 missiles, including 17 ballistic missiles and one guided air-launched missile, as well as 108 drones of various types.
According to the Ukrainian military, 23 missiles and 10 attack drones struck 20 targets. Debris from intercepted drones also fell at another 18 locations.
According to the military, one drone struck a passenger train in Zaporizhzhia Region. Passengers and railway staff were evacuated in time. A train attendant suffered a leg injury.
