Belarus’ Interior Ministry has added another 22 people to its “List of Citizens of the Republic of Belarus, Foreign Citizens or Stateless Persons Involved in Extremist Activities.”
Among those added is Russian citizen Vladimir Korchevny, 41, from the agricultural settlement of Shchytkavichy in the Staryya Darohi district of the Minsk region. According to the Interior Ministry, a verdict handed down by the Homiel Regional Court has entered into legal force. He was convicted under Part 1 of Article 369-1 of the Criminal Code (discrediting Belarus), Part 1 of Article 368 (insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka), and Part 3 of Article 361 (calls for actions aimed at harming the national security of the Republic of Belarus). The ministry’s database states that Korchevny is serving his sentence.
The “extremist” list now contains 6,794 names.
The Belarusian authorities have repeatedly used extremism-related charges to target political opponents and suppress dissent more broadly.
