An air services agreement between Belarus and Sri Lanka has been signed in Minsk, BelTA reported. The document was signed by Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aliaksei Liakhnovich and Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.
According to Liakhnovich, the charter program to Sri Lanka demonstrated aircraft occupancy rates of more than 87%, and the Belarusian airline intends to begin operating regular flights after the agreement is ratified.
Herath emphasized that direct flights would allow relatives of Sri Lankan students studying in Belarus to visit them, while Belarusians would be able to travel to Sri Lanka as tourists.
In addition, the education ministers of the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of higher education.
The sides also discussed food supplies, cooperation in agriculture, road construction machinery and potash fertilizers.
As previously reported today, Sri Lanka will make visas free for Belarusians starting from May 25.
