A working meeting between the First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Investigative Committee Aleh Shandarovich and a delegation of Kazakhstan’s Financial Monitoring Agency was held at the Investigative Committee of Belarus. The meeting took place within the framework of the Eurasian Group’s week on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism. Heads of relevant departments of the Belarusian investigative agency also took part.
The parties discussed issues related to combating financial-sector crimes, as well as the exchange of information on the use of payment instruments in criminal activity, schemes for transferring stolen funds abroad, and the legalization of illicit proceeds.
Participants highlighted the importance of developing cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum signed on 6 December 2023.
One of the key topics was the prospect of creating joint investigative–operational groups to investigate interconnected crimes, as well as the procedure for including investigators from Kazakhstan’s Financial Monitoring Agency in such groups.
“The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus has positive experience in creating investigative–operational groups for investigating crimes in the sphere of information and communication technologies together with competent bodies of CIS member states.
We are ready to share our experience and see great potential in developing our cooperation. Mutual support and exchange of experience create a solid foundation for strengthening the security of our states and for building modern mechanisms for investigating and preventing crimes,” Shandarovich said.
The sides also discussed exchanging experience in investigating the activities of virtual gambling establishments.
“We regard cooperation as a contribution to strengthening the financial security not only of our states but of the entire region. I am confident that joint initiatives by Belarus and Kazakhstan will become an example of effective partnership and will help develop trust and stable ties between our countries,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency Ulan Raissov.
In addition, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between the Belarusian Investigative Committee and its departmental institute with the Academy of Financial Monitoring of Kazakhstan. They expressed readiness to develop cooperation in education and science — from mutual internships and advanced training to joint research, scientific-practical seminars, and conferences. The interlocutors agreed to continue dialogue and implement concrete steps toward deepening cooperation, the press service of the Belarusian Investigative Committee reported.
