Banks Reduce Lending To Individuals

In February, banks issued loans to individuals worth 1.23 billion roubles, 150 million more than in January. Compared with February last year, the volume of lending fell by 9.1%. These figures were published by the National Bank of Belarus.

For the first two months of the year, lending to individuals declined by 19.5% to 2.3 billion roubles.

Consumer lending in January-February fell by 22.4% to 1.86 billion roubles. Lending for real estate purchases dropped by 13.9% to 457.5 million roubles.

Household debt on loans increased by 141.4 million roubles in February and stood at 29.92 billion roubles as of March 1. Compared with a year earlier, household loan debt increased by 11.8%.

Debt on consumer loans rose by 12.7% to 11.78 billion roubles, while debt on real estate loans increased by 11.2% to 18.11 billion roubles.

As of March 1, individuals had overdue loans worth 51.8 million roubles, 1.1 million more than on February 1. Compared with a year earlier, the volume of overdue debt increased by 7.6 million roubles.
