Viktar Babaryka published a post on Facebook presenting the position of the organizing committee of the Razam party regarding participation in the Coordination Council.

“After repeated and detailed discussions, a decision has been made for our party not to participate in the spring elections to this body,” Babaryka wrote.

He also outlined arguments in favor of this decision. According to him, before taking part in elections, it is necessary to change the principles of formation and interaction of all institutions of the democratic forces.

“We believe that before participating in the Coordination Council elections, it is necessary to change the principles of formation and interaction of all institutional bodies of the democratic forces in exile, based on a parliamentary-presidential republic that ensures independence, transparency, and accountability of all these institutions. We tried to move these elections to autumn so that there would be time to prepare and agree on these proposals with all interested parties. However, we were unable to do so,” the statement said.

A second argument, he said, is the inability to ensure the effectiveness of the Coordination Council’s work.

“The Razam party was originally conceived as a genuinely functioning representative organization acting in the interests of the Belarusian people and its members. At present, we do not see the possibility of ensuring the effectiveness of the Coordination Council and, accordingly, the expediency of our activity within it,” Babaryka added.

“However, we support the participation of individual people (supporters of our party) and associations close to us in principles and goals (“Moladzevy Nastup”), who have made a different decision,” he concluded.

It should be recalled that voting in the Coordination Council elections will take place on May 11–17. The submission of applications from electoral subjects will end on March 31.
