Aliaksandr Milinkevich once again requires assistance. He needs to undergo intensive rehabilitation following a complex operation performed in November last year. This was announced by his wife Ina Kuley.
Last year, it was discovered that one of the politician’s neck arteries had been blocked by a blood clot. He underwent surgery. However, the operation was associated with complications. Milinkevich suffered cerebral oedema.
“For three weeks Aliaksandr remained in intensive care — between life and death. With God’s help and thanks to your prayers, he survived.
Then came long months of battling infections, which hospitals are unfortunately full of and which are especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems. Pneumonia, intestinal infection, then pneumonia again…
The left side of the brain, which is responsible for intellect, speech and memory, was not affected.
The right side, which controls movement, sustained damage: his left arm is not functioning and his legs have limited mobility”, Ina Kuley wrote.
As a result, Milinkevich now requires a new stage of rehabilitation. Ina Kuley thanked everyone who had already helped and supported the family.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank and bow to everyone who cares about Aliaksandr’s fate, who supports us with words, prayers, help and action.
Unfortunately, Aliaksandr remains a carrier of pathogenic bacteria that may become active at any moment. Therefore, he still cannot return home — he requires constant medical supervision and intensive rehabilitation. All of this costs money. Like many of you, we cannot return to our homeland. Our home in Bershty was sealed after searches and a criminal case was opened. We receive neither Belarusian nor Polish pensions and live only on what we can earn ourselves. When we were healthy and both working, we had enough for a decent life. Now everything has changed.
Rent, payment for the rehabilitation centre, medicines, transport costs to travel to the hospital every day to see my husband — all this is already beyond our means. Therefore, friends, I am asking for your help. I strongly believe in the power of our solidarity, in the power of collective support and in human kindness.
I believe that if God preserved Aliaksandr’s life, we must continue fighting for him.
And I sincerely believe that celebration still lies ahead”, she wrote.
A fundraiser for Aliaksandr Milinkevich’s treatment has been launched on the zrzutka.pl platform. The goal is to raise 120,000 zlotys. So far, 16% of the target amount has been collected.
