During the night of November 10–11, eight weather balloons and one drone crossed into Lithuania from Belarusian territory.
Almost all of the weather balloons were intercepted. Two landed in the Šalčininkai district and the rest in the Varėna district. According to preliminary data, the balloons were carrying more than 13,000 packs of cigarettes, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported.
A drone flying from Belarus was also spotted in the Šalčininkai district. It was forced to land and identified as a homemade smuggling UAV. The cargo it delivered could not be found at night, and the search continued in the morning.
Earlier that night, restrictions were introduced at Vilnius Airport due to the balloons. Several flights were redirected to other airports.
