A record number of attempts to cross the border from Belarus into Latvia illegally was recorded on July 1. A total of 232 migrants attempted to enter the country unlawfully. The statistics were provided by Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service.
Since the beginning of the year, Latvian border guards have prevented 7,018 people from illegally crossing the Belarus-Latvia border.
On June 30, Latvia extended the enhanced border security regime in Ludza Municipality, Krāslava Municipality, Augšdaugava Municipality, Rēzekne Municipality, and Daugavpils until Dec. 31, 2026.
