Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Ukraine should pursue a more active policy towards Belarus. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is considering candidates for the position of special envoy on Belarus.
“There will be personnel changes in the diplomatic corps. The Foreign Ministry is also preparing candidates for the appointment of a special envoy on Belarus and the Belarusian community in Europe — a more active policy is needed.
It is precisely the activity of our state, the activity of our people, that brings Ukraine the best results. When Ukraine does not lose a single day and a single opportunity, Ukraine’s interests are truly protected,” Zelenskyy said in his evening video address.
Earlier today, Zelenskyy met with former Ukrainian foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin. The discussion focused on strengthening diplomatic efforts “in Europe and beyond.”
“Ukrainian interests must be represented at the official level, as well as through engagement with communities from countries that still lack freedom or are under Russian influence,” Zelenskyy said.
It should be recalled that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Zelenskyy met in Vilnius on January 25. The sides discussed bilateral relations and international issues. The appointment of a special envoy on Belarus was proposed. Zelenskyy also invited Tsikhanouskaya to visit Kyiv. On February 18, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
