Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said there had been unusual activity observed the previous day along sections of Ukraine’s border with Belarus, originating from the Belarusian side.
“Yesterday, rather unusual activity was observed along sections of the Ukraine-Belarus border — from the Belarusian side. We are closely monitoring and controlling everything and, if necessary, will respond. Ukraine is ready to defend its people and its sovereignty, and everyone being drawn into any aggressive actions against Ukraine must understand this”, he stressed.
The Ukrainian leader also reported the preparation of several sanctions packages — for today and in the near future.
“We are continuing our work with partners — in Europe, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, and other parts of the world — with all those who are capable of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and providing Ukraine with greater economic strength. We expect significant results from negotiations in May”, he noted.
According to Zelensky, he also spoke today with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“We need strong relations between our countries, and we are both interested in this. It was important to hear that Slovakia supports Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and is ready to share its accession experience. I invited the prime minister to visit Kyiv and thanked him for his invitation to come to Bratislava. We also discussed the possibility of meeting in person in the near future. Our teams will work out the schedule”, the Ukrainian president added.
