Mikalai Statkevich remains at home in Minsk without documents. According to him, his passport is still in the colony, whose administration does not respond to requests. Without documents, he is unable to travel abroad for medical examinations, visit a local clinic, or restore his pension. At the same time, bailiffs have already laid claim to half of the pension he cannot yet receive.
Responding to questions from associates on his Telegram channel, he expressed surprise at doubts about his authorship of published materials, noting that some public figures use his conclusions without citing the source.
“As for my articles. When publishing them, I expected a negative reaction from some readers, but imagined it roughly like this: ‘what is there to say, after all, it’s a stroke,’ followed by fake condolences and equally fake wishes for a ‘speedy recovery’. But I did not expect that even my authorship would be questioned. So who else wrote them — perhaps Shakespeare’s ghost slipped into my personal channel, and I, out of love for literature, kept silent? Moreover, while denying my authorship, I see that some public figures use conclusions from my first article, but without referencing its author. Well, at least like this. Maybe they just do not want to mention Shakespeare’s ghost? Or they consider me a ghost as well,” he wrote.
“It must be acknowledged that in a legal sense they are partly right, because I was released without a single document confirming my identity. My passport remained in the colony, whose administration does not respond to requests. Did they leave it as a souvenir? And without it, not only can you not travel abroad for examinations, as many suggest, you cannot even go to a local clinic. And you cannot prove that I am me. Only the brave bailiffs decisively recognised my physical existence without documents, but immediately laid claim to half of my pension, which I also cannot restore without a passport,” the politician said.
Statkevich believes that after a defeat in Ukraine, the Kremlin will look for new directions for a breakthrough to the West. In his view, the importance of the “Belarusian balcony” for Moscow will only grow, creating a threat not only to Belarusian statehood but also to the physical existence of the country and its people.
The politician also commented on the situation in Venezuela and Iran. He believes that in the near future there are no prospects for the liberation of the Iranian people — unless the regime makes some concessions under external pressure.
It should be recalled that Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced in 2021 in the “Tsikhanouski case” to 14 years in prison. In September 2025, he was among 52 political prisoners who were to be taken to Lithuania, but he refused to leave Belarus and ran out of the bus. After that, he was held for several months in a prison in Hlybokaye — this became known only after his release on February 19. On January 21, he suffered a stroke, which affected his speech. He is now at home in Minsk, but his documents have still not been issued, and his legal status remains undefined.
Statkevich has spent a total of more than 12 years in Belarusian prisons.
