Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on a meeting with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held today at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. Sybiha said Ukraine should cooperate with Belarusian democratic forces and expressed confidence that the Belarusian people would free themselves from an authoritarian regime.

“We discussed the evolving situation in Belarus and the growing security threats posed by Russia with the use of Belarusian territory. Moscow is increasingly dragging Belarus into its war against Ukraine, turning it into a platform for aggression, not only against our country, but against Europe as a whole,” Sybiha wrote on social media platform X.

The Ukrainian foreign minister spoke in favour of cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces and said the Belarusian people should not become hostages of the Lukashenka regime.

“It is crucial that the Belarusian people do not become hostages of the Lukashenko regime, which bears full responsibility for facilitating aggression. We will continue our engagement with democratic Belarusian forces in order to ensure regional security, stability, and a future where Belarus contributes to peace, not war.

The Belarusian people will be definitely free from this aggressive authoritarian regime. And an independent and free Belarus will take its rightful place in the European democratic community.,” Sybiha said.
