Prime Minister Alyaksandr Turchyn met with Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. The talks were held on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of Government Summit.

“In Belarus, we consider Iran a very close and friendly country. It is gratifying to note that our Belarusian-Iranian relations are developing dynamically. We highly appreciate the recent official visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to our country.

I am confident that the agreements reached between our presidents should simply give new momentum to our Belarusian-Iranian relations. We are indeed focused on building strategic ties with Iran and, of course, on the most effective and prompt work to fulfil all our objectives,” he said.

Turchyn proposed using SCO and BRICS platforms more intensively for bilateral cooperation. He also expects significant results from the creation of a free trade zone between Iran and the EAEU.

“The entry into force on 15 May of this year of the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran will undoubtedly yield significant results, including in increasing the volume of bilateral trade,” he said.
