Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has arrived in Yerevan, where the 8th summit of the European Political Community is taking place.
As reported by her office, she will take part in the summit’s events as an invited guest representing Belarus. She is also scheduled to participate in the Yerevan Dialogue conference organised by Armenia’s foreign ministry. This is Tsikhanouskaya’s first visit to Armenia.
“Ladies and gentlemen, today I am in Yerevan at the European Political Community summit together with more than 40 European leaders — presidents, prime ministers and heads of state. It is a great honour for me to represent Belarus and the Belarusian people. I am here to speak about Belarus, to emphasise that Belarusians are not the regime, that Belarus is not Russia, and that we are part of Europe. I will raise issues of Belarus’s security and independence, support for Ukraine and the need to preserve European unity.
We must not only isolate the regime, but also support the Belarusian people. I will also speak about the release of political prisoners. This is our top priority, as well as the next steps to strengthen Belarus’s independence and ensure accountability for the regime’s crimes. Our task is to keep Belarus at the centre of international attention. That is why I am here today”, Tsikhanouskaya said.
She is taking part in EPC events for the fifth time. Leaders of the European Union, the presidents of France and Ukraine, and the prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Italy, among others, have gathered in Yerevan. The prime minister of Canada is attending the summit for the first time.
